River Reads was established by Sandy Armishaw in Torrington
as a second hand bookstore with an eclectic range of titles.
Over the years the angling side has enlarged and River Reads
has now become one of the premier angling book specialists
in the country, with many titles signed by the authors.
To accompany this the shop also included a range of vintage
fishing tackle as Sandy's husband Keith renovates antique
cane rods. You can view the site and the full stock with
ordering facilities on www.riverreads.co.uk
The charitable trust was started in 2009 to try to preserve
angling history, principally through film footage, recordings,
photographic material and written information. The Trust
is interested in the people and social history rather than
big fish and expensive tackle. The Trustees are Sandy Armishaw
(the founder) of River Reads Bookshop; legendary carp angler
and author Chris Yates, and former match angler & accountant
Reg Talbot. Fred Buller MBE is the patron. The Trust has
already recorded Fred Buller MBE talking to the late Fred
J Taylor MBE. This was made into a book containing two Cd's
and the nett proceeds were used by the Trust to fund further
recordings of Des Taylor with the late Prof. Barrie Rickards,
and the Bob Buteux and Len Arbery. Items have been also
been donated or loaned, many of which you can see when visiting
River Reads Bookshop in Torrington, and you can learn more
about the Trust including how you can help through the website
